A police career first

Jim Saraceni joined the Norwalk Police Department in 1981 and stayed 27 years, retiring in 2008. He went to law school at night while working full time as an officer, and was admitted to the Connecticut bar in 1997, eleven years before he left the force. That same year the department named him Officer of the Year; the State of Connecticut cited him in 1998. He also received a certificate of appreciation from the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The units he served in are the ones that generate the cases he now defends:

  • Patrol Division and the Canine Unit
  • Detective Bureau
  • Special Services Division, narcotics and vice
  • FBI Safe Streets Task Force, gangs
  • FBI Violent Fugitive Task Force
  • Hostage Negotiations Unit

Twenty-seven years of writing police reports, running investigations and testifying is the background he brings to reading the State's case: what the report leaves out, which questions were never asked, and where the case is thin.

Then the law

He is a member of the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the office is BBB accredited with an A+ rating.

How a case starts

What actually happens between the first call and the day he stands with you in court. Nothing here waits on paperwork nobody has explained to you.

  1. Call(203) 853-2700. If someone has been arrested, say so first: arraignment is usually the next court day. If he is in court, the answering service takes the message.
  2. Free consultationThe first 30 minutes are free, in the office on Mott Avenue or by phone, by appointment. Bring what you have: the summons, the bond paperwork, the police report if you were given one.
  3. Review of the filePolice reports, the warrant, body-camera video, medical records. He reviews the State's case before advising you on a plea or a trial, and tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.
  4. CourtHe appears with you in Stamford, Bridgeport, Danbury, Torrington or New Haven Superior Court.

Talk to Jim before you talk to anyone else.
